Just Pace for iPhone and Apple Watch

Just Pace support

Stuck, confused, or found a bug? Email us and we will do our best to help. Most questions are about Health permissions or Watch sync, so the answers to those are below too.

Contact support

Email [email protected]. Just Pace is made by Yay! Project, a collection of tools and projects by Adrian Lansdown. For anything not about Just Pace, use the Yay! Project contact page.

To help us answer quickly, include:

  • Your iPhone model and iOS version, and your Apple Watch model and watchOS version.
  • The Just Pace version, shown under Settings, then About & Feedback, on iPhone.
  • What you were doing, what happened, and what you expected instead.
  • Screenshots of the app screen if they help explain the problem.

Please do not send Health data such as workout exports, heart rate readings, or Health app screenshots. We do not need it to help you, and we would rather you kept it to yourself.

Troubleshooting

Health permissions

Just Pace asks for Health access when you first open it on iPhone. If you chose Not now, whichever device you start your first run on asks again. One answer covers both devices.

  • To change what Just Pace can do, open the Health app on iPhone, tap your picture, tap Apps, then Just Pace. Settings in Just Pace has a shortcut to the same place.
  • If runs are not appearing in Health or Fitness, check that Workouts and Walking + Running Distance are allowed under the write permissions.
  • If a run appears but has no map, check Workout Routes under the write permissions, and location access for Just Pace on the device you ran with (Watch or iPhone) under Settings, then Privacy & Security, then Location Services.
  • Heart rate, energy and the running metrics (speed, power, stride length, vertical oscillation, ground contact time) are optional: the run still saves without them, it just carries less detail.
  • Apple does not tell apps whether they may read data, only whether you have been asked. So Just Pace can only show that the question was answered, not what you chose. Check the Health app if pace or distance stays empty during a run.
  • Health data is not available on iPad or Mac, so runs cannot be recorded there. Presets still sync to Apple Watch.

Installing the Watch app

The Watch app installs with the iPhone app when an Apple Watch is paired. If it does not appear on your Watch, open the Watch app on iPhone, scroll to Available apps, and install Just Pace from there.

Syncing presets

Every Target Run you create on iPhone becomes a preset on your Watch, and deleting one on iPhone removes it from the Watch. Sync uses Apple's connection between the two devices, so it needs the Watch paired with that iPhone and Bluetooth turned on. If a preset is missing:

  • Open Just Pace on iPhone with your Watch nearby, unlocked, and on your wrist.
  • Tap Refresh at the bottom of the preset list on the Watch.
  • Check Settings, then Apple Watch, on iPhone, which shows the connection and when presets were last sent.

Refreshing the Watch

The Refresh button on the Watch re-applies the last set of presets the iPhone sent and, when the iPhone is reachable, asks it for the current list. If the Watch still shows No target runs yet straight after installing, quit the Watch app and open it again. Opening the app before the system has finished registering it can stop it receiving the iPhone's first sync until it is relaunched.

Haptics

Run haptics are configured on iPhone under Settings, then Apple Watch. The Run haptics switch silences all of them, and each kind has its own switch beneath it. Changes reach the Watch the same way presets do, so if they do not take effect, follow the sync steps above.
